The Arab Spring Reaches Iraq

  • PDF

Article: "The mainstream media has basically gone into hysteria mode with so much focus on ISIS, when in fact, ISIS is a small entity. It's definitely playing a critical role in the uprising in the areas of Sunni Iraq, but if it didn't have the support of the masses, in other words a general Sunni uprising, it would not be able to accomplish all of this....... and I think that the problem is there is just a disproportionate amount of focus on ISIS." Kamran Bokhari, Strafor.

Free speech is a liberal tool of power

  • PDF

Article: The idea of free speech is flawed in theory and politicised in practice. It is an idea impossible to implement, and has never been implemented anywhere historically – not even today, in liberal societies.

For instance, when justifying the most recent film insulting the Prophet, the White House said, “we cannot and will not squelch freedom of expression in this country.” Then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton noted, “our country does have a long tradition of free expression…we do not stop individual citizens from expressing their views no matter how distasteful they may be.” These sentiments have been echoed by leaders in Europe and Australia.

Prison Memoirs and the Honor of Companionship with the Ameer of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the eminent scholar, Sheikh Ata ibn Khalil Abu al-Rashta (Part-2)

  • PDF

I used to ask Abu Yasin(Sh. ‘Ata) about the cause of the shiver which afflicted his side when he used to lead us in prayer. I found out that it was the result of torture he underwent in the prisons of the intelligence agencies in Jordan, Libya and Iraq - electric shocks and other forms of torture. I recall him telling me that the shabab would be tortured in those prisons to the point that they would be tied to gas cylinders so that they would move in circles around themselves at times of extreme cold in the torture chambers whilst whips would hit them from all sides.

Here I will suffice with the mention of some testimonies about the shabab of the Hizb I heard from brothers (not from the Hizb) who we knew inside and outside the prison.

Prison Memoirs and the Honor of Companionship with the Ameer of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the eminent scholar, Sheikh Ata ibn Khalil Abu al-Rashta (Part-1)

  • PDF

The beginning starts from the Sawaqa desert prison in Jordan. That day I did not know about Hizb ut-Tahrir except that which made me hate and ridicule the Hizb. May Allah forgive the one who was the cause of this!

On the morning of that, day news came to the prison that a prisoner by the name of Ata Abu al-Rashta (Abu Yasin) will be transferred from Juwaideh prison to the Sawaqa desert prison. It did not matter to me as much as it mattered to the shabab (members) of Hizb ut-Tahrir, who were in the room opposite to ours. I witnessed their cheerful faces, when they heard of his coming. I found out from them that he was the official spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir. But who from us knew of him?
