Free speech is a liberal tool of power

  • PDF

Article: The idea of free speech is flawed in theory and politicised in practice. It is an idea impossible to implement, and has never been implemented anywhere historically – not even today, in liberal societies.

For instance, when justifying the most recent film insulting the Prophet, the White House said, “we cannot and will not squelch freedom of expression in this country.” Then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton noted, “our country does have a long tradition of free expression…we do not stop individual citizens from expressing their views no matter how distasteful they may be.” These sentiments have been echoed by leaders in Europe and Australia.

Article: 2013 is marked as a horrific year in the hearts of the common Bangladeshi people. Arson, atrocity and killing reached such levels that people were even panicked to leave their residence. All economic activities were about to shut! All people, including day laborers, farmers, service holders and businessmen, suffered due to the evil of Hasina and Khaleda. Prison Memoirs and the Honor of Companionship with the Ameer of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the eminent scholar, Sheikh Ata ibn Khalil Abu al-Rashta (Part-2)

I used to ask Abu Yasin(Sh. ‘Ata) about the cause of the shiver which afflicted his side when he used to lead us in prayer. I found out that it was the result of torture he underwent in the prisons of the intelligence agencies in Jordan, Libya and Iraq - electric shocks and other forms of torture. I recall him telling me that the shabab would be tortured in those prisons to the point that they would be tied to gas cylinders so that they would move in circles around themselves at times of extreme cold in the torture chambers whilst whips would hit them from all sides.

Prison Memoirs and the Honor of Companionship with the Ameer of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the eminent scholar, Sheikh Ata ibn Khalil Abu al-Rashta (Part-1)

The beginning starts from the Sawaqa desert prison in Jordan. That day I did not know about Hizb ut-Tahrir except that which made me hate and ridicule the Hizb. May Allah forgive the one who was the cause of this!

On the morning of that, day news came to the prison that a prisoner by the name of Ata Abu al-Rashta (Abu Yasin) will be transferred from Juwaideh prison to the Sawaqa desert prison. It did not matter to me as much as it mattered to the shabab (members) of Hizb ut-Tahrir, who were in the room opposite to ours. I witnessed their cheerful faces, when they heard of his coming. I found out from them that he was the official spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir. But who from us knew of him?

Article: On November 23rd 2013, President Obama termed the nuclear deal with Iran as historic, and it was the first time since negotiations commenced in 2003 that brakes were put on Iran’s so called nuclear weapons programme. He said,“Simply put, they cut off Iran’s most likely paths to a bomb.” The Jewish state does not share the same view and is opposed to the deal. The Jewish Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, called the agreement a “historic mistake”.

Other states most notably the Gulf countries are disappointed with the agreement.S

ami al-Faraj, a security adviser to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), told Reuters that Gulf Arab governments felt slighted by the deal. “Iran is sitting at the high table,” he said. “We are left with the leftovers.” He added, “We will acquire more weapons. We are going to check if our shopping list is adequate to respond to this. We are going to rally other nations that are hurt by this action into a unified diplomatic campaign.”
